After serving the City of Stockton since 2011, Vanessa Burke, CPA has joined the Urban Futures, Inc. (UFI) team as Managing Principal for the Public Management Group. Ms. Burke has built a reputation of sound leadership and decisive action in the face of difficult financial circumstances. The ability to facilitate organizational change and to access financial performance will serve UFI as the company moves into the future.
Ms. Burke moved from the Assistant Director of Administrative Services to the CFO of Stockton in October of 2012, a few months after the City of Stockton came to grips with their financial woes and filed for Chapter 9 Bankruptcy Protection. Under her leadership, over nine audits were planned and directed. She was also the front-line manager in the citywide strategic priority to “get its fiscal house in order.” As CFO, Ms. Burke performed integral functions in the Bankruptcy/AB 506 process and also refunded several bonds, saving the City $13 million and upgrading its bond rating while in Bankruptcy.
Ms. Burke brings with her the experience from a distinguished career in financial services that include both public and private industry experience. Her municipal financial auditing expertise, having audited large public agencies during her tenure at PricewaterhouseCoopers and Moss Adams, is exceptional and a significant value addition to the UFI portfolio of services.

Ms. Burke will continue to reside in Northern California and serve UFI clients throughout the State. She will provide support to UFI on the San Bernardino Bankruptcy project and also on the engagement with the City of Beaumont.
