The City of West Covina Enlists Roberts Consulting Group to Aid in Search for New City Manager

Due to a lack of response to the vacant City Manager position in West Covina, the City has engaged Roberts Consulting Group to help procure a qualified candidate for the position. Roberts Consulting Group has a long history of recruiting highly talented individuals with a commitment to serving the public, and matching agency and talent objectives to find the best possible fit.

“The City sent flyers about the vacant position to the League of California Cities’ annual city managers’ meeting in San Francisco in January,” commented Tom Mauk, Interim City Manager of West Covina. “Nobody called us”.

The City Council agreed to hire Roberts Consulting Group, Inc. for $24,000 to handle the process. Roberts will interview each councilman to get an idea of what qualifications the city is looking for and then present six to nine candidates to the council, according to Mauk.

City officials expressed concern that the city’s outdated salary for its city manager position may have deterred applicants. The city managers base salary of $195,000 has not been updated in 14 years, and is not competitive enough with similar sized cities. The council is reviewing material on the types of benefits and pay a candidate might expect.

The council hopes to wrap the process up by mid-June, Mauk said.
