Irvine City Council Unanimously Votes to Join ACC-OC

On February 12, the Irvine City Council unanimously voted to join the Association of California Cities-Orange County (ACC-OC). Irvine joins 22 other cities across the County as a member of ACC-OC, which convenes city leaders to generate ground-up solutions to the largest challenges facing local governments.

“I am proud that my colleagues and I came together tonight to join the ACC-OC,” said Irvine Mayor Pro Tem Jeffery Lalloway. “I’m a firm believer that a united Orange County is a stronger Orange County. And by becoming active members in the ACC-OC the City of Irvine has unanimously committed to this ideal.”

In their decision to join the ACC-OC, council members stressed the importance of Irvine’s position as a County leader to help shape policy on a local, state and regional level. Also important to the Council was the ACC-OC’s focus on economic development and job creation, collaboration with regional partners in non-profit, private and academic sectors, local government innovation and tangible services provided to city staff members to save time and financial resources.

“With this vote, the entire Irvine City Council – Mayor Steven Choi, Mayor Pro Tem Jeffery Lalloway, and council members Larry Agran, Beth Krom and Christina Shea – came together in a strong support for a collaborative approach to public policy,” said ACC-OC CEO Lacy Kelly. “We’re proud to have Irvine as members and are eager to gain from their collective wisdom and leadership as we strive to produce public policy that benefits all local governments.”

The vote to join the ACC-OC was supported by a broad spectrum of community, business and local government leaders, including Orange County Supervisor Todd Spitzer, Tustin Mayor Al Murray, former San Juan Capistrano council member Laura Freese, Irvine resident and transportation expert Sarah Catz, and Orange County Business Council CEO Lucy Dunn.
