Malibu Mayor Pro Tem Lou La Monte Installed as President of California Contract Cities Association

(MALIBU, CA) – Lou La Monte, Mayor Pro Tem of the City of Malibu, was installed as President of the California Contract Cities Association (CCCA) at the group’s 57th Annual Municipal Seminar on Saturday, May 14.  CCCA represents and advocates for over 70 cities throughout Southern California.

“I’m honored to serve as President of this prominent organization, and I’m excited about the great things we can achieve together in the coming year as we bring together the voices of over 7 million Californians,” La Monte said at the CCCA’s installation dinner in Indian Wells. “The California Contract Cities Association will be a constant presence in Sacramento, and the new legislature will get to know us, our communities, our ideas and concerns.”

At the conference, whose theme was “The Power of Cities,” La Monte laid out what he hopes to achieve during his term. Goals include revitalizing the CCCA’s tradition of not only supporting or opposing legislation, but creating new legislation; adding new member cities; continuing to reflect California’s diversity; increasing the CCCA’s access to lawmakers in Sacramento and Washington D.C.; and striving for greater transparency in the organization.

Lou La Monte has served on the Malibu City Council since 2010 and has been a resident of Malibu for 25 years. On the City Council he has championed quality of life issues including addressing the proliferation and over-concentration of drug and alcohol rehab facilities in residential neighborhoods. He has also introduced ordinances to raise the minimum wage, and implement parking lot safety standards that will help save lives, including requiring protective bollards.

Established in 1958, the CCCA grew from eight member cities contracting with counties for municipal services, such as Sheriff and Fire Departments, to ensure the best service at the minimum cost to their communities. It has evolved and expanded to over 70 cities today representing more than seven million residents. Its mission now includes advocating and protecting local control. The CCCA combines resources to participate in policy and legislative decisions that affect not only their member cities, but also, all of California as well.
