MMASC Appoints Jorge Garcia as President

The Municipal Management Association of Southern California (MMASC) welcomed Jorge Garcia as their new President. Prior to stepping into his role, Garcia held the positions of Vice President, Treasurer and Orange County Region Co-Chair within the organization.

As President of MMASC, Jorge Garcia will preside over all organizational meetings and coordinate with other team members to continue MMASC’s programs. Garcia will personally oversee MMASC’s three signature events: the Winter Forum, the Summer Session, and the Annual Conference. In addition, Garcia will act as a liaison between MMASC and other organizations, such as the City Manager’s Department at the League of California Cities.

Garcia’s’ goals over the next year are to build on the success of the organization, provide value to its members, and promote MMASC as the premier professional development association for municipal managers. MMASC members represent the future of local government and providing the skills, networking, and pathways toward success provides them with opportunities to grow as professional.

As a Region Co-Chair, he developed the necessary networking and event planning skills that would assist him in being the 2014 Annual Conference Co-Chair. Having served as Treasurer, he has a keen understanding of the financial position of MMASC and the need to raise funds and be prudent with resources.

“In order to be successful as President, I feel that it is important to understand how the organization functions at all levels,” commented Garcia. “The totality of my previous experience with MMASC, as well as having mentors that have served the organization in various capacities, and the support of my City, will contribute in my Presidency.”

In addition to his work as President of MMASC, Garcia is also a Senior Management Assistant for the City of Santa Ana. He is a graduate of California State University Fullerton with a Masters Degree in Public Administration.
