RBF to Assist SMWD with Civil Engineering for Water Supply and Recycled Water Projects

RBF Consulting was recently selected by Santa Margarita Water District (SMWD) for a $640,000 civil engineering services contract to design new pipelines, reservoirs and appurtenant facilities to provide water and recycled water to support Rancho Mission Viejo’s new planned community which is located within SMWD’s service area in south Orange County, California.

The project’s major components include approximately 25,000 lineal feet of domestic water pipeline and recycled water pipeline, 4.0 million gallons of domestic storage, and 4.0 million gallons of recycled water storage. Civil engineering for the design of facilities is expected to extend through March of 2013. These facilities will be designed to support Rancho Mission Viejo’s construction of homes and related land uses as approved by the County of Orange.

The use of recycled water for landscaping and irrigation use for the purpose of sustainability and water conservation was pioneered in California and has been in use in Southern California since approximately the 1930s. Santa Margarita Water District, with the RBF team of experts, will continue to carry forward this innovative and environmentally sustainable concept for the Rancho Mission Viejo community.
