The California Choice Energy Authority (CalChoice), in partnership with Participate.Energy, hosted a webinar on November 10 to share information about Power Choice — an innovative clean-energy program that makes solar and battery backup accessible, predictable and affordable for households and businesses.
“The session provided residents and businesses with a deeper understanding of how the program works and the benefits available,” said CalChoice Interim CEO Rob Johnson. “Power Choice was designed to remove barriers and give our communities greater energy reliability. Thank you to everyone who joined the discussion.”
Presenters reviewed how Power Choice offers an easy pathway to solar and battery storage by removing traditional financial barriers such as credit check, down payment and property liens. Instead, customers enroll through predictable monthly payments that include full system maintenance, monitoring and support. Speakers emphasized how this structure helps customers manage long-term energy savings and gain greater energy independence through on-site generation and battery backup.
The webinar also highlighted the program’s flexibility. Customers who already have rooftop solar can add a battery through Power Choice, a particularly valuable option under California’s new NEM 3 rules, which reduce compensation for sending excess energy to the grid. For commercial properties, the Power Choice+ program expands access even further, giving small and mid-sized businesses seeking reliable, cost-saving energy upgrades.
Another key theme was convenience. Power Choice integrates directly into a customer’s existing Southern California Edison bill, includes complimentary repairs and replacements for the life of the agreement and allows customers to transfer participation if they move. At the end of the 25-year term, customers may choose a no-cost system removal, a five-year extension or a purchase at fair market value.
“As we continue to expand Power Choice, our priority remains providing customers with opportunities to make the switch to clean energy,” continued Rob. “We look forward to helping more residents and businesses access clean energy solutions through this groundbreaking program.”
