The California Choice Energy Authority’s (CalChoice) held its highly anticipated All-Member Meeting on Thursday, September 12 in Rancho Mirage, home of CalChoice Associate Member Rancho Mirage Energy Authority (RMEA).This year’s theme, The Future is Now, set the tone for dynamic discussions on how Community Choice Aggregators (CCAs) can proactively navigate today’s regulatory challenges and prepare for the evolving energy landscape.
“The annual All-Member Meeting isn’t just a chance to reflect on where we are—it’s about looking ahead,” said CalChoice Executive Director Jason Caudle. “By bringing together eight associate members and ten partner organizations, we’re able to foster collaboration and innovation, ensuring that together, we’re building sustainable, future-ready communities.”
To start the meeting, CCA staff participated in a morning session led by Pacific Energy Advisors and NRG. This session provided key insights into the current energy market and trends in an evolving power market. Following this, legislative updates were presented by Deveau Burr Group, sparking engaging conversations about upcoming key bills affecting CCAs. They also shared their experiences from lobbying trips to Sacramento and discussed the prospect of increased collaboration among CCAs for future advocacy efforts, including a potential joint lobbying trip in 2025.
In the afternoon, attendees transitioned to a detailed exploration of regulatory achievements and program developments. Braun, Blaising & Wynne began with a comprehensive review of recent regulatory wins, followed by Frontier Energy’s presentation on Elect to Administer Energy Efficiency Programs, covering the factors impacting annual unit energy savings and associated costs.
The meeting concluded with a case study by Participate Energy, a partner of CalChoice, discussing the Power Choice Commercial Pilot and the impact of expansion programs and marketing efforts conducted in both English and Spanish. Subsequently, a round-table discussion allowed each associate member to share updates, program victories and future plans from their respective CCA, with a focus on energy battery storage and electric vehicle rebate programs.
Once sessions concluded, meeting attendees gathered for networking and social events. The group enjoyed a wonderful dinner at the bluEmber restaurant and took the opportunity to explore the Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa. CalChoice thanks each of our sponsors for making these events possible.
“I always look forward to our annual All-Member Meeting,” continued Jason. “It’s inspiring to work with our associate members and see their dedication to their communities.”
