CalChoice Selected for Historic Clean Energy Program

California Choice Energy Authority (CalChoice) is partnering with the Southern California Equitable Building Decarbonization Coalition (SoCal EBD Coalition) to bring no-cost home electrification to low-income residents. The California Energy Commission (CEC) has awarded the coalition $329 million to implement the Equitable Building Decarbonization Direct Install (EBD DI) Program across Southern California.

Through this initiative, CalChoice will work collaboratively with coalition partners to deploy the program and offer energy-efficient electric appliances and home upgrades at no-cost to homeowners and tenants, with a focus on historically underserved communities.

“This new partnership represents a significant opportunity to advance clean energy equity with tangible benefits to our community members,” said Executive Director Jason Caudle. “CalChoice’s membership in the coalition ensures that the transition to clean energy is accessible to all.”

Set to begin in mid-2025, the comprehensive program offers residents living in single-family, multifamily, and manufactured homes complete project support from start to finish, including no-cost installation of energy-efficient electric appliances, measures and upgrades. Participants will also have access to additional sustainability programs to enhance energy resilience. CalChoice joins 55 organizations, including community-based groups, regional energy networks and local government and tribal councils. Together, they will serve low-income households in under-resourced communities across Imperial, San Diego, Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside, and San Bernardino Counties.

“I am looking forward to joining forces with our coalition partners to make clean energy upgrades possible,” continued Jason. “By bringing together innovative leaders and forward-thinking programs, we are an unstoppable force in California’s energy journey.”

The CEC formally approved the funding in December 2024, marking a major step forward in California’s clean energy transition. For more details or to check eligibility, visit the Southern California Equitable Building Decarbonization Coalition website.
