Lou La Monte was elected to the City Council in April 2010 and re-elected to a second term in April 2014. His term will expire in November 2018. He served as Mayor Pro Tem from November 2011 to August 2012, and again beginning in October 2015. He served as Mayor from August 2012 to June 2013.

Mayor Pro Tem La Monte previously served as a Public Works Commissioner and, for eight years, he was president of the Big Rock Mesa Property Owners Association, one of the largest homeowners associations in Malibu.

Since 2013, Mayor Pro Tem La Monte has served as a presidential appointment to the League of California Cities’ Housing, Community and Economic Development Policy Committee. In May 2016, Mayor Pro Tem La Monte was elected President of theCalifornia Contract Cities Association, a position he will hold for one year. Also in May 2016, on a recommendation from the President of the Los Angeles County Division of the League of California Cities, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors appointed Mayor Pro Tem La Monte as a member of the Commission on Alcohol and Other Drugs for a term expiring January 1, 2017.

In his professional life, Mayor Pro Tem La Monte is a director and producer. He has produced and directed over 3,000 commercials in more than 40 countries for major national and international clients. He has also achieved success in Emmy winning long form Dramatic projects and Award winning Children’s programming. He is a member of the Directors Guild of America and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
