Michael Coleman, a fiscal policy advisor to the League, gave an in-depth look at city finance and an update to the state budget. He said, “Under the current budget there is a surplus for cities. But it is uncertain how the final budget will play out once the Governor issues the May revise.”

Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva also addressed the gathering talking about the importance of local government control.

Tony Cardenas, public affairs regional manager for the League, gave a legislative update on two bills, both relating to medical marijuana. The League is co-sponsoring SB 1262 (Correa), a bill that regulates medical marijuana while preserving local control and opposes AB 604 (Ammiano) which would undo city ordinances banning medical marijuana dispensaries.
