Tripepi Smith’s work ensured Cupertino’s 2018 BAAG effectively communicated about complex information through vibrant imagery and graphics.
Tripepi Smith Graphic Designer Kjerstin Nichter created the report with project oversight from Director Katherine Griffiths. Together, the Tripepi Smith team provided creative direction for staff and executed on two versions of the report: one in English, and the other translated in Mandarin.
“We completed a style refresh for Cupertino recently. The City has been rolling out the new brand standards in all of its publications since, and I was thrilled when staff asked us to work with them again on the BAAG,” said Kjerstin. “This project was particularly rewarding because it required me to think creatively about how we could convert complex information into a visual story for Cupertino’s stakeholders. The team at Tripepi Smith is passionate about helping community members, especially residents, understand how their local government is working them.”
The final product features soft but vibrant greens, oranges, salmons, greys and blue infographics and cartoons that guide the viewer’s eye through the eight-page report. These informative, playful images break up paragraphs of text on every page, engaging readers in a way that text alone could not. Most importantly, the booklet contains all of the information from the City of Cupertino’s 2017-2018 budget in an easy-to-digest, visually-appealing format.
