Yorba Linda – Current State of Housing Event

unnamed (6)Yorba Linda residents were invited to attend a free event at the Community Center on Tuesday June 23rd, 2015 to discuss the current state of housing and the impact that it has on their community. It is apparent now more than ever that cities need diverse planning to meet today and tomorrow’s needs.

Orange County’s housing deficit is reaching crisis levels. A report from the Orange County Business Council uncovered the need for upwards of 62,000 more homes than currently on the books. Affordability issues drive out a younger workforce. And local concerns can often force on type of product for one specific demographic.

ACC-OC worked to address these issues in its first-ever housing forum focused on Yorba Linda’s specific needs as well as a broader regional look.

unnamed (5)Dr. Wallace Walrod from OCBC addressed his study, while local resident and water policymaker Brett Barbre, housing economist Steve PonTell and attorney from Best, Best & Krieger Todd Leishman addressed water, planning and legal barriers to new homes.

The event was aimed at educating the public on the need for new housing. More than 60 local Yorba Linda residents were in attendance and the event has been recorded for further distribution.
