Corona, CA— On Jan. 15, 2016 the City of Corona will launch the latest feature in its quest for open government, Open Budget and Open Checkbook, powered by Socrata.

The City of Corona is introducing this online interactive tool as a part of a first phase of a citywide coordinated effort to provide greater transparency and foster an environment of openness in regards to the inner workings of local government. This is a step toward promoting both efficiency and effectiveness in the way the City of Corona serves its residents.

“We are excited to release this new interactive tool to the community for the purpose of furthering the dialogue of an open government,” said Assistant City Manager and Administrative Services Director Kerry Eden. “It breaks down the complexities of the City’s budget in a way that is interactive and easyto-understand.”

The new open data interactive system is broken down into two parts: Open Budget and Open Checkbook. Open Budget offers a guided view through the breakdown of the City of Corona’s annual budget. Open Checkbook is a dataset which includes payments made to vendors and other obligated parties by the City of Corona through the citywide accounts payable system.

“We are always looking for the most innovative ways to offer clearer communication and increased transparency to our constituents,” said City Manager Darrell Talbert. “We truly believe Socrata allows Corona to be on the cutting edge of technology when it comes to local government.”

The new website can be explored at www.OpenDataCorona.com and is also available through links on the City’s main website, DiscoverCorona.com.
