Former United States Marine Corps Sergeant, Mark Kleinsmith has joined Urban Futures, Inc. (UFI) as a Financial Analyst.
Recipient of the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement medal, Mark served five years in the United States Marine Corps. His service included deployments to Iraq and South East Asia.
Having been stationed at Camp Pendleton in Southern California, Mark elected not to return home to snowy Buffalo, NY and instead pursue a degree at Pasadena City College, later transferring to California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA). He graduated in 2014 with a Bachelors degree in Business Administration and Finance.
During his college career he served as the President of the CSULA Veterans Organization and as a member of the Board of Trustees for the CSULA Endowment Foundation. With this experience, Mark was an outstanding candidate for a fellowship with The Mission Continues, a national nonprofit that empowers veterans to serve their country in new ways.
Through The Mission Continues, Mark served the City of Monterey Park, working on budget and fund analysis. Here he sharpened his knowledge of municipal finance and became acquainted with the team at UFI.

Mark, an Eagle Scout, was a senior in high school when 9-11 occurred. With his family tradition of military service and a desire to always push past his comfort zone, serving his country was a natural choice. Now, as he moves into this next phase of his life and career, Mark looks to continue to serve, providing local governments and their constituents with sound financial advice and planning.
