CalChoice Associate Member Pomona Choice Energy Celebrates Two-Year Anniversary

Pomona Choice Energy, CalChoice Associate Member and the City of Pomona’s locally managed energy provider, celebrated its two-year anniversary on October 1, 2022. Pomona Choice Energy currently serves 36,092 residential customers and 5,116 commercial and industrial customers throughout the City.

“Pomona Choice Energy continues to execute on important renewable energy projects and has been a great example for our newer CCAs to follow,” said CalChoice Executive Director Jason Caudle. “After two years of success, we look forward to continuing our partnership with Pomona Choice Energy and watching the CCA continue to grow in the coming years.”

As the City’s energy provider, Pomona Choice Energy purchases power on behalf of customers while Southern California Edison (SCE) continues to deliver that power to residents and businesses. Pomona Choice Energy offers customers three unique energy plans: Pomona Choice (38% renewable energy), Pomona Choice 100 (100% renewable energy) and Pomona Solar Choice (self-generated energy). Customers eligible for CARE, FERA and Medical Baseline discounts continue to receive those benefits through Pomona Choice Energy.

Not only has the program helped customers save on their utility bills, but Pomona Choice Energy has also made substantial progress in developing its energy programs over the past twenty-four months. For example, Pomona Choice Energy has partnered with Emporia and OhmConnect to provide Pomona residents with discounted energy-efficient devices to conserve power, lower electricity bills and benefit the environment.

Looking ahead, Pomona Choice Energy will be reinvesting program revenues back into the community to fund renewable infrastructure projects and develop new sustainability programs. For instance, Pomona Choice Energy will focus on launching a pilot program with Distro Energy to develop a virtual power plant project which will provide resilience and grid stability. The pilot phase includes deploying solar and storage assets. Additionally, Pomona Choice Energy is developing a plan to install EV charging stations at Palomares Park.

Pomona Choice Energy is one of 25 community choice energy programs in California, serving over 11 million customers in over 200 towns, cities, and counties.

“We’re proud to celebrate two years of offering the Pomona community clean power at competitive rates,” said Pomona Mayor Tim Sandoval. “Since its launch, our CCA program has helped customers save and continues to execute on innovative partnerships and initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and help the environment.”
