California Choice Energy Authority (CalChoice) Associate Members are proud to partner with OhmConnect, an organization that rewards customers for saving energy when it matters most. OhmConnect sends push notifications to customers when Flex alerts are issued and the power grid is at risk of failing. If customers reduce their energy consumption following an alert, they are compensated with cash rewards and prizes.
“OhmConnect is an effective program with the power to reduce energy use and help keep the lights on when heatwaves cause risk of blackouts,” said CalChoice Executive Director Jason Caudle. “When temperatures are this high, it’s essential for residents to make informed choices about when to unplug energy-consuming devices and appliances.”
As California continues to face record-setting heat waves, it’s more important than ever for residents to conserve energy to keep the lights on in our communities. Between August 31- September 9, the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) issued ten consecutive Flex Alerts as an urgent call to reduce stress on the power grid. Conserving energy during peak hours, when electricity prices and power demand are high, is the most effective way to reduce the risk of widespread blackouts.
During the September heatwave, OhmConnect customers saved a total of 1.5 GWh of energy. Additionally, participants realized $2.7 million in rewards as a result of their conservation efforts in September.
CalChoice Associate Members have played an integral role in spreading the word about OhmConnect’s program. CalChoice CCAs are responsible for bringing OhmConnect 922 new customers and 599 new utilities connections.
“We’re proud of our members for doing their part to offer the OhmConnect program to their customers,” continued Mr. Caudle. “We look forward to our continued partnership with OhmConnect and hope our associate members’ customers continue to enjoy the savings and rewards.”
