CalChoice Welcomes Members and Partners for Annual Meeting

The California Choice Energy Authority’s (CalChoice) All-Member Meeting on Thursday, September 29 brought together Associate Members and partners in Lancaster, home of CalChoice Associate Member Lancaster Energy (LE), for in-depth discussion about regulatory affairs affecting Community Choice Aggregators (CCAs).

“Each year, I look forward to the All-Member Meeting, as it’s a chance for our eight associate members to gather, collaborate, and learn from one another,” said Jason Caudle, CalChoice Executive Director. “By discussing victories and challenges, we are able to identify areas of focus for the coming year and develop strategies and solutions for meeting energy-related goals in our communities.”

Jay Robertson and Scott Olson with NRG kicked off the programming with a weather overview, describing how recent heat waves are affecting CCAs in California. In particular, they noted that the record-setting high temperatures have had a significant impact on the state-wide power grid and, by extension, electricity prices.

Shortly after, attendees were offered break-out sessions to move about and participate in informal discussions on various topics, including “Legislative Wins Strategies and Priorities” with  S360, “Program Highlights” with Tesla/Lancaster Energy, and “Customer Care Boot Camp” with Calpine.

Kicking off the afternoon, Braun Blaising & Wynne (BB&W), a partner of CalChoice, delivered an extensive presentation about CCA regulatory affairs featuring several of the firm’s attorneys. The presentation included a regulatory overview, as well as key updates about new Resource Adequacy requirements and Integrated Resource Plans. CalChoice is pleased to report that all of our associate members have remained in compliance with these policies, and no citations have been issued.

Closing out the day with a round-table session, each CCA had the opportunity to share updates from their respective CCA, including new program victories, recent challenges, and plans for the coming months.

Once sessions concluded, meeting attendees gathered for networking and social events. The group enjoyed socializing (and exercising) with an Axe Throwing activity, followed by a catered dinner at Gino’s Ristorante. CalChoice thanks each of our sponsors for making these events possible.

“I am very pleased that we were able to meet in person this year for our All-Member Meeting,” continued Caudle. “Beyond connecting with associate members, it was a great opportunity to get to know the various people who work behind the scenes to make our CCAs run smoothly. We’re already starting to coordinate the details for next year’s event!”
