Senior Business Analyst Sydni Overly recently completed the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Crisis Communication Certificate Program, further enhancing her skills in crisis communication.
In addition to her work on crisis communication situations at Tripepi Smith, Sydni previously served as the Emergency Services Coordinator for the City of Gardena. She assisted with general municipal communications, managed all COVID-19 communications and was instrumental in maintaining relationships with the key stakeholders, including the business community.
The PRSA virtual program consists of six modules that help leaders, managers and communication professionals successfully navigate various crises. It provides resources and guidance on how to maintain and build trust, fulfill expectations, create and sustain the narrative, define roles and responsibilities and plan ahead.
“A crisis can impact an agency at any given time. Effective responses require both proper management of the situation and timely, tactful communication,” said Sydni. “PRSA’s Crisis Communication Certificate Program helped me become more adept at strategizing communication plans for different scenarios. It also armed me with the tools and techniques to craft messages that prioritize all stakeholders involved, especially the community.”
Effective crisis communication first requires a solid understanding of the situation and the agency’s response plan. Messages should demonstrate a clear understanding of the community’s perspective and experiences while reaffirming the agency’s commitment to its values and taking productive actions.
From natural disasters and weather-related emergencies to leadership transitions, Tripepi Smith has worked with several agencies to properly address community concerns. In all crisis situations, Tripepi Smith promotes transparency and trust.
“Tripepi Smith’s experience in guiding cities through crisis situations has equipped us with the skills to effectively address stakeholders and inspire confidence in your agency,” said Co-Founder and President Ryder Todd Smith. “Sydni’s new certification in crisis communication demonstrates our commitment to better serve our clients in the most turbulent of times.”
