Indian Wells Offers Great Culture and Career Advancement in Finance Department

Indian Wells Assistant Finance Director

The City of Indian Wells’ Finance Department is hiring for an Assistant Finance Director to join its dynamic team.

As the City says goodbye to Susan Leong, who is retiring after 10 years of service, it seeks an ambitious professional to fill the vacant spot.

“We are looking for someone who can handle the daily responsibilities of being our Assistant Finance Director while simultaneously introducing new ideas and approaches,” said Kevin McCarthy, Finance Director for the City of Indian Wells. “Our ideal candidate aspires to become a Finance Director, Assistant City Manager or Economic Development Director. We want someone who can grow and succeed with us.”

The City’s new Assistant Finance Director will work alongside Kevin as well as City Manager Wade McKinney to guide finance, accounting and information technology staff as well as lead activities and operations relating to the Finance Department. In the event of the Director of Finance’s absence, the Assistant Finance Director will act on his behalf.

The City prioritizes developing employee excellence through collaboration among departments and an environment that encourages creative thought. Staff is also encouraged to participate in professional associations to enhance their capabilities, identify best practices and expand their network.

“We strive to help our employees grow and learn,” said Indian Wells City Manager Wade McKinney. “Our community has high expectations of their government and that means we need to hire and nurture top talent. Our team is filled with folks who are excited about their projects, colleagues and community.”

In addition to serving as City Manager of Indian Wells, Wade is the President of the California City Management Foundation and is a strong voice within California’s local government community. Since being hired by Indian Wells in 2013, Wade has lead a culture change focused on the City excelling both internally and externally. It was that change, and Wade’s strong reputation that drew Peter Castro, Assistant to the City Manager, to Indian Wells.

“I had met Wade before through other professional organizations and had always had great conversations. When the Indian Wells position opened up, I decided it was an excellent opportunity and would give me a chance to advance my career experience. I have been fortunate to have strong mentors in my career, and working with Wade added another,” said Peter. “Plus, Indian Wells is just a gorgeous community, and I have a lot of pride working in this city.”

Located in the heart of Coachella Valley, the City of Indian Wells is a premier resort destination and world-renowned entertainment capital for tourists and residents alike. The City boasts over 300 days of sunshine, contemporary architecture, vast desert mountains and top tier shopping and dining. Residents love the City all the more for its low cost of living and award-winning school districts.
